|Shanghai hosts 2nd China Quality Conference|
More than 680 quality control professionals from 37 different countries attended the 2nd China Quality Conference in Shanghai on Sept 15-16.
Based around the theme "Quality: Improve the supply side, usher in a new era", the conference focused on improving the quality and efficiency of economic and social development, discussing the latest trends in international quality control, and promoting advanced quality management theories and methods.
Wang Yong, a member of China's highest political body, the State Council, made the keynote speech at the conference.
In his speech, Wang stressed that upgrading the quality of economic growth is crucial to the world's economic prosperity and requires concerted effort from international society.
"China stands ready to work together with countries and organizations around the world to jointly safeguard international quality standards and accelerate progress in raising quality standards," said Wang.

Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision Director Huang Xiaolu also delivered a speech on the vital role standardized management practices played in strengthening the international influence of Shanghai's quality standards.
Huang said that standards can provide rules in urban governance. With the aid of standardization, governments can make full use of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and the internet of things to improve planning management.
Quality management is a global topic that requires concerted international action. Zhi Shuping, director of China's National Bureau of Quality Inspection, stated that a robust quality control system is the key to improving quality standards.
Creating an integrated system for measurement, standards, certification and inspection can strengthen quality a city's quality control system, promote cross-border cooperation and share the latest achievements in raising quality standards.
He added that China had made efforts to establish a global product traceability system and improve inspection mechanisms for imports and exports to identify products not meeting quality standards.
The conference also featured five sub-forums on different topics, including "Quality Promotes Urban Sustainable Development", "Quality Improves Life: views and practices from the public sphere", and "Quality Improvement through Certification Recognition".
