New stricter standards for child safety seats released
New stricter quality standards for child safety seats have recently been issued. They will take effect from Sept 1.
The new standards, based on the national standards published in 2012, stipulate that child safety seats should more strictly satisfy quality requirements in usability, quality uniformity and chemical content.
As for product usability, any product identifications for child safety seats, such as instructions, should be easy to understand. Consumers who do not understand instructions may use the seats improperly, resulting in safety risks for children.
The provision of quality uniformity requires that mass produced products should have the same quality as the inspected samples.
The new standards also set allowable levels of chemical components such as pH, formaldehyde and flame retardant.
